Problem addressed
Distributed devices can leave port counts, power budgets and uplinks mismatched. Existing equipment may have different optical interfaces, and management requirements may be unclear. Map these conditions across each network layer.
Solution benefits
- Plan access and power together
Compatible PoE ports carry data and power. Confirm each port limit and the total switch budget separately. - Aggregate by area
Organize devices and uplinks by floor or zone and identify the resulting load at the center. - Retain suitable Ethernet equipment
Use conversion equipment where an existing Ethernet device needs a fiber uplink, subject to both end interfaces. - Select for the installation
Choose the exact model for environmental, power and management requirements.
Suitable applications
- Floor-based building access feeding a central equipment room.
- Area-based aggregation of campus cameras or network devices.
- PoE-powered devices or existing Ethernet equipment requiring fiber uplinks.
Connection overview

Cameras / IP devices → compatible PoE access switch or fiber transmission unit → matched fiber uplink → aggregation network.
Existing Ethernet equipment → compatible media converter, only where needed → matched fiber link.
Check the PoE standard, per-port capability, total budget and input supply separately. Where matching optical ports already exist, use the appropriate optical pairing. Conversion paths are alternatives selected as required, not components to stack together by default.
Equipment selection
Models and optional equipment must be matched to the actual site. These items do not form a fixed kit.
| Equipment | Role and selection conditions |
|---|---|
| PoE switch AEO-8S7104-POE, AEO-5110-POE, AEO-5S9416-M/POE | Evaluate industrial, commercial or managed requirements separately. Confirm power and functions for the exact model and version. |
| Ethernet fiber transmission unit | Conditional alternative where fiber access is needed. Check Ethernet ports, optical ports and power. |
| Fiber media converter AEO-GF2001 | For existing Ethernet equipment that requires conversion to fiber. Confirm both interfaces and pairing. |
| SFP module SM-GE-1550/1310nm-SC | Optional only where the main device requires a matching SFP. Check speed, wavelengths, remote pairing and compatibility. |
| Fiber accessories | Provide fiber connections, distribution and maintenance-port labels as needed. |
Information needed for selection
Provide device interfaces, bitrates and simultaneous traffic, power, cable routes, uplinks and environmental conditions. Confirm voltage, polarity and pin assignments separately for non-standard power. Check VLAN and other management requirements against the exact model.
